I am lucky to have a mother-in-law who has always been eager to share her Indian culture with me. This sharing usually revolves around food. Her cooking is sublime and I am lucky that she is patient enough to share her skill with me.
One of the things she has taught me is how to make my own chai masala. And now I will share the recipe with you. It is simple to make and will save you a small fortune on individual cups purchased in a shop.
INGREDIENTS
- 1/2 cup fennel seeds
- 1/3 cup green cardamom seeds
- 2 tbsp black cardamom seeds
- 2 tbsp dried mint leaves
- 1 tbsp black peppercorns
- 1.5 tbsp ground ginger powder
- 1 tbsp ground cinnamon
- 1 tbsp ground cloves
METHOD
Grind up the whole spices and add to the ground ones. Mix together.
TEA (1 cup)
Boil equal parts of water and milk. Add 1 black tea bag, 1 tsp of sugar and 1 pinch of the masala. Bring to a boil. Strain into a cup and enjoy!
